My work attempts to reconnect the viewer to a mystical origin, a primordial peace and profound joy, a Ki Tov / Οτι καλον. In the Book of Genesis, when the Creator contemplates his works, he marvels at it. Inspired by the Philokalia, the love of beauty which has become my drive, I marvel at the world that is and could just as well not be.
In the “Air Marin” series I have been focusing on the sea as the ancient and sacred place of the beginnings. I started to dive into this immemorial past, mixing modern digital and old victorian era techniques, specifically going for the tonalities of platinum printing. By creating my own unique small sized platinum prints for this series I hope to draw the viewer in what I aim to be an icon elevating the soul through peace and contemplative quiet, a portal to the transcendental, bearing the perfect imperfection that stems from this long and involved production process.
